Oregon Revised Statutes provide that records law applies to all government records. In compliance with OAR 93-0042, the University of Oregon has established a records retention and disposition schedule.
Below are relevant retention periods related to documents associated with cash handling. Retention periods represent the minimum and maximum periods as established in state administrative rules. According to the Records Management Manual, minimum and maximum periods mean that the records must be kept for as long as the retention period listed, but no longer. Records should be disposed of promptly once the retention period length has been satisfied. Exceptions are: records involved in litigation, criminal or civil investigation, audit or continuing administrative use. Under no circumstances should a record be kept for less than the retention period. For additional guidance, consult the U.O. Records Management Manual (October 1996). To obtain a U.O. Records Management Manual, contact the Office of University Archives.
