It is recommended that you use your travel agent (TMC – Travel Management Company) when you need to book a Fly America compliant airfare for international travel using federal funding. There are many exceptions to the Fly America rules and your travel agent is the expert and can assist in finding a compliant flight for the best price or help you provide documentation for an exception.

However if you use the booking took to book your own itinerary, you must make sure to book a Fly American compliant itinerary. Look for the shield icon as shown below.

Warning: your grant will not pay for air for a noncompliant itinerary and you could potentially be “out-of-pocket” if you book a non-compliant flight.
