Faculty and OA - Overview

This employee family consists of Academic employees and Officers of Administration.  The appointment authority for Academic employees is the Provost Office and for Officers of Administration, the appropriate VP.

Employee Class:

Employee class is a fundamental concept of understanding in the university's personnel and payroll system.  In Banner-HRIS, employee class or ECLS is a two character code which signifies an employee's union representation, pay scheme, leaves, and benefits eligibility.  The employee class is the hallmark for understanding what rules apply in the Banner system.

Single positions are established for: tenure or tenure track faculty, career instructors with fixed term contracts, officer of research tenure or tenure track; and officers of administration.

Pooled positions have been established for: visiting faculty; Pro Tem faculty, term by term appointments, paid post-docs, fixed term officers of research, full year fixed faculty on short term contracts, wage appointments, summer session and stipend jobs (dept head, teaching and faculty excellence awards, endowed chair etc).

Labor Distribution:

The FOAPAL information provides for payment of salary and wages. Fund code for a temporary assigned to a unit on general funds is 001100: the organization code reflects the department employing the temporary 151112: the account code specifies the classified wage expenditure 1010B: the program code is linked to the organization: the activity is determined by the department.  HRIS spreads the monthly payroll amount in accordance with the percentage assigned to each index or FOAPA.
